This 1980s Swift Rapide 12/4 caravan came up for sale during Covid lockdown. My daughter and I decided we wanted a project; this was it. We picked it up in a bit of a state, covered in plantlife and had previously been wrapped with a gloss white. Once we got it home we stripped it down, removed all the wrap, checked it for holes and what was hidden underneath. Then the fun project started.We kicked off by hiring a professional caravan team to check underneath and make sure it was all ok. Brakes etc all worked fine and the chassis was healthy. They added some lube etc…. and gave it a clean bill of health.The tyres were knackered and the wheels looked old, so we had them shot blasted and powder coated, and then put new tyres on both wheels and the spare too.Windows – took them all out and found a variety of water damaged wood underneath. All wood replaced with exterior prepared wood. Then got carried away and replaced 90% of the other wooden struts with the same prepared wood. This obviously required us to remove the interior and the furnishings. This was a good thing though as there was loads of rotting wood hidden behind old formica and carpets. The floor is solid and did not need replacing.Outside – we prepared all the outside and filled the few holes with pvc panels and strategic use of good quality external sealant.
